Our Process
Empathize
Each student is unique in his or her own way, and it is essential that their own story is heard. In order to practice empathy with students, we get to know students as more than just students, but as individuals with hopes, dreams, and passions that extend beyond their academic pursuits. We do this in a variety of ways, such as open discussions about what they enjoy, drawing diagrams of their life journey, and by actively trying to understand their pursuits in and out of the classroom. After understanding each student, we help them carve out and mold a portfolio that amplifies their personal vision. These portfolios are dynamic and ever changing. Thus, they will be constantly updated as we iterate through college applications. The goal of this step is to take learnings from the empathizing process and construct holistic narratives of the student that highlight their strengths.
Research
Just like each student, each school is different. We believe that every school has its own "personality" - a set of characteristics that define its student body and spirit. Therefore, when researching for potential colleges and universities for our clients to apply to, we not only help construct lists of reach, match, safety schools, but also identify how our clients can personally connect to those schools. We perform extensive research on the student body of each school and determine how our client will fit in within a student body, both in terms of what they can attain from the school and what they can give to the school. We also connect our clients with actual students who they can speak to in order to glean deep insights into the makeup of each potential school.
ideate
After defining student portfolios and researching schools, we must ideate over each college application. Each school has different expectations of students beyond that of excellence and diligence. Therefore, each application must be approached differently. We take student portfolios and tailor them towards each application in different ways, enabling their own strengths to align with the needs of each school. This ideation phase is highly iterative as we will go through many drafts of each college essay and prompt response. The insights we gained through the research and empathizing phases will enable us to imbue within each application both the character of the student and the reason why they are a great fit for a given school.
Implement
Once we have finalized college essays and prompt answers, we work closely with each client to ensure that every application is carefully completed. We help manage application timeliness and set clear schedules and expectations. Our goal is to make sure that every application submitted is of the highest quality, down to the letter.
In the case that a client wants to retake a standardized exam, we offer one-on-one guided test preparation at no additional cost. We know that the score on a standardized exam can potentially change the outcome of a college application, so we will help you practice for the highest score possible.
Follow Through
We want to do more than help our clients complete college applications. We want to keep close bonds with our clients and their families. We will be with you every step of the way, from submission day, to decision day, and even up to move in day and beyond. Each client has the option to opt-in to join our network of college students, through we hope they can find a support system. We follow up with each client at the end of each semester as long as they need to make sure that they can make the best of their college experience.
